Description
Gloucester Row is a terrace of three houses located on the west side of the Esplanade in Weymouth, dating from around 1790. The buildings are rendered with slate roofs and consist of three storeys, an attic, and a basement, each featuring three plain sash windows. Nos. 93 and 95 have two hipped dormers, while No. 94 has Victorian gabled dormers. The second-floor sashes of No. 94 have been enlarged, cutting through the continuous sill band, and this property also features a large canted late Victorian sashed bay on the ground floor. The ground floors are rusticated.
Nos. 93 and 94 have six-panel fielded doors beneath shallow elliptical fanlights, paired with half-columns that have fluted neckings and square capitals, leading to a frieze and cornice. These doors are accessed by six steps, with No. 93 having nosings and No. 94 having tiles. No. 95 has a single door to the left, similar in style but with a complete entablature, also on steps with nosings. The original balcony with cast-iron brackets and decorative balustrade remains at No. 95, while it has been removed from No. 93. No. 94 has a replacement balcony and balustrade above the bay. The terrace features a moulded cornice, a blocking course, and a parapet, with a deep brick stack to the right of No. 94.
The interiors have not been inspected. The properties at Nos. 93 and 95 retain spearhead railings with standards and returns to the doorway, while No. 94 has later replacements.
