Description
Jordon House is a detached early 19th-century house, originally a farmhouse. It has front and back walls finished in render, with a gable facing the street. The construction is rubble with brick dressings, topped by a slate roof. The house is a large, wide-fronted block with a deeply pitched roof, accompanied by a low, attached range with a thatched roof extending from the gable.
The two-storey and attic dwelling has three windows and features 16-pane sashes in plain reveals, with a central four-panel door set within an arched reveal and a decorative fanlight above. Large brick stacks are positioned at each gable. Three lay-lights are incorporated into the roof slope. The front elevation at attic level has 12-pane sashes, above 16-pane sashes at the first floor, and 12-pane sashes at ground floor – the ground-floor sashes were originally 16-pane, with subsequent alterations to the bars. The rear wall contains a central 16-pane sash at first floor, and a two-light casement window with a transom. A slated lean-to has been added, along with a large gabled glazed addition.
The interior was not inspected, but panelled 19th-century shutters are visible to the ground-floor windows. The attached outbuilding is constructed of rubble with brick dressings. The road-facing wall is plain, while the inner face features a series of 20th-century steel windows.
