Description

This is a mid-18th century shop located in the Market Place of Sturminster Newton. The building is constructed of stucco over whitewashed rubble, with a tiled roof and stone slate verges. Brick stacks are located at the ends of the building. It is two storeys and an attic, originally with a five-window front. The ground floor now features a four-pane sash window to the left and a largely 20th-century canted bay shop front to the right. A central door is topped by a segmental hood supported on moulded brackets. The first floor has a central circular window (bulls-eye) flanked by two four-pane sash windows on either side. There is a four-light dormer window in the roof. A string course runs along the building, topped by a heavy, moulded cornice.
