Description
A group of four headstones is located approximately 4 meters northwest of the tower of the Church of St Andrew, next to the western churchyard wall. These monuments are made of Portland stone and date from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.
From the north, the first headstone is a large, thick double stone shaped like an open book, featuring a square head. It has no embellishments, but the partially legible inscriptions cover the entire surface and include the name John, dated 1753, as well as John Samuely from 1775. The second stone is smaller and has a complex shaped head, with a fine inscription that reads Mary, daughter of John and Elizabeth Brown, who died in 1828. The third monument is a very thick, square-headed stone with a bevelled back, featuring a complete but only partly legible inscription that includes the year 171- and the name of John Smith's wife. The fourth stone is small, thick, and rectangular, with a plain design and an illegible inscription, likely dating from the later 17th century.
