Description
Old Farm House is a detached farmhouse located on Organford Road in Lytchett Minster. The main front range of the house dates from the early 19th century, while the rear kitchen wing is likely the original part of the house from the 18th century. The main range features plastered cob walls and a hipped slate roof with plastered stacks, and it is designed in the Regency style. A semi-circular portico with Tuscan columns and a flat roof leads to the entrance, which has a door with ornamental raised panels, flanked by timber pilasters and a cornice. Above the door is a fanlight with bordered glazing. The ground floor includes two double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, and the first floor has three similar windows. There is a garden room added around 1930 on the south side, constructed to match the main building. The rear wing has brick walls, some plastered, and a gabled slate roof, with several lean-to additions. Inside the front range, there is a cut-string staircase with ornamental spandrels and a moulded cornice in one of the ground floor rooms. The front range may have been remodelled from a barn, as there is evidence of a gap between it and the rear wing.
