Description
Gateway House, located at No. 1 High East Street, dates from around 1830 to 1840. It is constructed of pink brick with rubbed brick voussoirs and features a slate mansard roof. The building has two storeys and attics, with two ranges of sash windows that have glazing bars on the ground floor. The entrance door has six flush panels and a semicircular fanlight above it, with a blind window positioned above that. There are also two flat-topped attic dormers, each with sash windows and glazing bars. Gateway House is part of a group that includes Nos. 1 to 9 (consecutive) and No. 7A, forming a cohesive architectural ensemble with the Kingdom Hall and The Old House at Home on Salisbury Street.
