Description

Three houses, originally stables and a coach house built in the late 18th century, forming part of the former Belfield House estate. They are constructed of large square Portland stone with a slate roof. The building is a large, hipped two-story block; the section closest to the road is shallower than the rest.

The main front faces east. Number 1 has a four-window frontage. The first floor features two small-pane casement windows, and two replacement six-pane windows, above three deep six-pane sash windows without horizontal bars, all with segmental heads. A wide arch in bay 2 contains a four-panel door with a transom light and side-lights with panels. There is a deep mid-band and a projecting stone eaves band. The return to the left also has four windows: two small-pane casement windows at the eaves level, above a large fixed twelve-pane window; a pair of doors under a three-pane transom light, set under an arch; and a three-light casement to a segmental head. Beyond an eaves stack, a further bay extends the building, and the rear wall has three six-pane sashes at eaves level, with a ridge stack.

The interior, partly inspected, contains fittings from the early 20th century conversion. Numbers 2 and 3 have a set-back frontage but share the same detailing as Number 1, with two and two windows respectively. They feature six-pane sashes and two windows with segmental heads. Above are four arched openings with three-pane transom lights, two with sashes, and two with doors. The door to Number 1 is an early four-panel door with a four-pane transom light. A mid-band and an eaves course run along the facade, and a stack is situated towards the right-hand end. The road frontage has a two-light small-paned casement and a plain two-light above a fixed four-pane. A further stack is located at the rear, and there are three two-light small-pane casements at each level.
