Description

This is a row of cottages dating from the 18th century, with earlier elements. They have plain tile roofs, and roughly finished ashlar fronts.

Number 2 is two storeys high with three bays. It has windows with four panes of glass on either side of a central window with three panes. The front door has upper panels cut away and glazed, and a wooden hood supported by brackets.

Number 4 is two storeys high with an attic. It has a slate mansard roof, partially tiled; a hipped dormer window is also present. A modern three-light casement window occupies the first floor, while a sash window with intact glazing bars sits on the ground floor within a segmental arch. The doorway is topped with a segmental head and a flat hood on shaped brackets, sheltering a modern door.

Number 6 is two storeys high, with two windows. The windows have intact glazing bars, and the ground floor windows are topped with wooden lintels. The front door has upper panels cut away and glazed, a wooden frame, and a flat, 18th-century hood supported by shaped brackets.

Number 8 has been modernized, and dates from the early to mid-19th century. It is two storeys high with two windows. The gable end has sash windows and a plain tile roof; the rear of the roof was formerly covered with stone slates.

Numbers 2 to 8 (even) form a group with numbers 42 to 58 (even) on Bell Street and number 1 Victoria Street.
