Description
The premises occupied by Dorset County Library, located at 1615 Bell Street, date back to 1615 and showcase a good Victorian design in a Georgian style. The building features two storeys and an attic, with three windows across its facade. It has a slate gabled roof and narrow flanking stacks made of ashlar with capping. The front is constructed of rough ashlar, and there are giant pilasters at both ends and flanking each window bay, which are adorned with a dentil course and a band above at the eaves level. There is also a band above the ground floor. The windows are set in reveals without glazing bars and have moulded stone architraves with keystones and shaped aprons. The round-headed doorway includes a door set in reveals, an architrave with a keystone, and a round-headed stone hood that rests on corbels supported by shaped stone brackets, topped with a small ball finial.
