Description

This is a row of five cottages located on the south side of Market Place in Box, dating from the early 19th century. The cottages are built of ashlar stone with slate roofs. They are two storeys high. Numbers 3 and 4 have a prominent ashlar stack on the front roof slope. These cottages originally had a two-window front, featuring 12-pane sashes and a six-panel door, with a hood supported by brackets over the door. Number 3 now has a 20th-century door and hood. Numbers 5, 6, and 7 have coped gables, two ridge stacks, and a wall stack at the west end. A first-floor band runs along the front. Originally, each house had a single-window front of 12-pane sashes, with a six-panel door to the left, sheltered by a bracketed hood. Number 5 has an additional 12-pane sash above the door, a 20th-century glazed porch, and a through passage to the left. The row is listed for its group value.
