Description

The Old Stables is a stable block, built in 1832 by C R Cockrell, and subsequently partly converted into a dwelling. It is constructed of ashlar with hipped slate roofs and deeply overhanging eaves to the internal courtyard. The stable block has an octagonal plan and two storeys. North and south faces feature round arched entrances with open pediments. The external walls have lunette windows set under round relieving arches. Internal walls contain 30-pane pivoting windows, while the upper floor windows are mostly blind. A plat band runs along the first floor. The original plank doors remain. A clock turret with cupola sits above the north pediment.
