Description
The Old Bakehouse is a terraced cottage, probably from the 18th century. It features stone walls with brick dressings and a tiled roof that has parapets at the gables, along with brick stacks. The building is two storeys high. The front wall includes a fragment of medieval carved stone, likely from Bindon Abbey. There is a modern part-glazed door, and the ground floor has three horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars, one of which is in a former doorway. The first floor has four similar windows. Inside, the main front room has a large open fireplace. At the rear is a wing that was formerly a bakery, which still retains some old ovens. Attached to the north side of No. 47 is a small former cottage or outbuilding that has been incorporated into the house; it has plastered walls on a stone base and a tiled roof. This structure is one storey and has an attic, featuring a stable door. The ground floor has one horizontally sliding sash window with glazing bars, while the attic includes two gabled dormers with similar sash windows.
