Description

The Bower is a late 16th- to early 17th-century cottage, extended and altered. It is located on North Street, Bere Regis. The building is constructed of cob and brick, with a rendered finish and a thatched roof. Originally a 3-bay structure, a left bay was added later and is of brick. A 20th-century door is set within an open timber porch on the right. The left bays feature casement windows with glazing bars, the left one being smaller. A similar window is on the first floor of the central bay, accompanied by a small 4-pane casement to its right. The roof is hipped, with a decorative thatch ridge and a brick ridge stack aligned with the door, along with a further stack at the left end. The left return, which is a roadside gable, has a recessed ground-floor window and a wide 18-pane side-sliding sash window above. The interior, which has not been inspected, is reported to contain a timber bressumer and beams in the central room.
