Description
No. 17 North Street is a house with an attached shop located on a corner site in Bere Regis. The house dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century. Its lower walls are made of brick, while the upper part is plastered, topped with a thatched roof and featuring brick end stacks. The building has two storeys. The ground floor includes a panelled door set in a recessed porch with a raised plaster surround, along with one three-light double-hung sash window, one double-hung sash window with glazing bars, and one casement window. On the first floor, there are four horizontally sliding sash windows with lead lights.
The attached shop is likely from the early 19th century, with plastered walls and a hipped slate roof, sharing a brick stack with the house. The west elevation features a part-glazed panelled door in a simple classical surround with flat pilasters and a moulded hood. Next to this is a 19th-century shop front with moulded pilasters and a cornice, along with a window that has glazing bars. The first floor of the shop has two casement windows with centre glazing bars. The south elevation mirrors the shop front and includes one casement window with glazing bars on the first floor.
