Description
40 High East Street is a building that appears to date from the 19th century, although a datestone from 1762 has been found. It is constructed of brown brick with red brick voussoirs, and the side walls are made of Ridgeway or Portland rubble. The building has a pitched slate roof and stands three storeys tall with attics. It features three ranges of sash windows with glazing bars, as well as two attic dormers that also have sash windows with glazing bars. The shopfront is from the 19th century. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 35 to 43 (consecutive), Nos 39A and 39B, the arch between Nos 40 and 41, and the British Legion Headquarters.
