Description
Aplin and Barrett Technical Services is an attached house and wing, now used as a laboratory and offices, dating from the early 18th century, with some internal modernization. The building features brick walls in Flemish bond with stone dressings, a stone plinth, and a brick dentil cornice. It has a slate roof with stone gable copings and renewed brick stacks at both gables. The structure is two storeys high and has three windows, which are three-lighters with moulded stone architraves and flat-section stone mullions. The window frames contain sashes with glazing bars and crown glass. The central upper window has a moulded architrave with a segmental head and stone side pieces carved with open flowers. The central doorway features a moulded architrave with scrolled flush feet, a pulvinated frieze, and a carved bracketed pediment. Inside, there are stop-chamfered beams and 18th-century panelling on the staircase wall. To the left, there is an attached range with lias rubble walls, a slate roof, and one brick stack. This range is also two storeys high and has two windows, which are renewed three- and five-light casements with glazing bars.
