Description
Lime Cottage is an attached cottage located on the north side of Mill Street in Burton Bradstock. It features a roof that dates back to the 16th century, a ceiling from the 17th century, and has undergone window replacements in the 20th century. The walls are made of rubble stone and painted white, topped with a thatch roof. There are two storeys, with two windows that have 2-light wooden casements, glazing bars, and wooden sills, all of which were renewed in the 20th century. The front door is a 20th-century plank and muntin design with glass lights, while a plank door on the right side has two strap hinges.
Inside, the roof showcases heavy jointed-cruck construction with large through-purlins and double-pegged collar beams. The eaves at the front are raised, accommodating the pitch of the roof above the backs of the principals. The ground floor features ceiling beams that are slightly chamfered with filleted stops, dating to the 17th century. There is an open fireplace with a large chamfered wood lintel and a depressed-arch head, also from the 17th century, although the rear of the fireplace has been recently blocked.
