Description
Woolcombe Hays is a detached farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with significant 18th-century re-walling and 19th-century alterations. The walls are primarily brick, laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with timber framing visible at the west end. The roof is thatched, displaying a gable on the left-hand side and a hip on the right. A rebuilt stack is located on the left-hand gable, while the right-hand ridge has a repointed stack. The house has one and a half storeys and five windows with irregular spacing; these are 2-light cast-iron casements featuring glazing-bars and wooden sills. The windows are set within gauged brick arches. A blocked round-headed entrance, constructed of gauged brickwork, is situated to the left of the centre. The main lobby entrance is on the right-hand side of the building, with a 20th-century porch providing access. The rear wall features a plank stable door. Inside, there are two back-to-back fireplaces. One has jambs made of chalk blocks, while the other has brick jambs. Both fireplaces have wooden lintels above them. A ceiling beam in the right-end room is convex in section with a notched underside.
