Description
This chest tomb, located approximately 1 meter south of the south aisle wall of the Church of St Laurence, dates from the early to mid 17th century and is made of Portland stone. It features a plain design with a very thick ledger slab that has a deep cyma recta edge. The chest is constructed from large, plain stone slabs, and there are worn remains of an inscription in capital letters on the north side, which faces the church. The base of the tomb has sunk below ground level. This style of chest tomb, characterized by its thick slab, is typical of the early 17th century.
