Description

Glebe House, South Wing Glebe House, and Garden Cottage are located in Corfe Castle and were originally a rectory, now divided into three private units. The building dates from the late 17th century and underwent alterations in the 18th century, with significant remodeling between 1800 and 1820. The structure has an irregular courtyard plan.

Glebe House, which forms the west range, features plastered walls and a hipped slate roof with a central brick chimney. It has two storeys and an attic. The entrance includes a 20th-century reproduction panelled door set within a classical surround that has a pediment and pilasters. The ground floor has two sash windows with glazing bars, while the first floor has three similar windows. The attic includes one hipped dormer with matching sashes. On the east front, there is a canted bay window added in the 19th century. Inside, the main ground floor room boasts an ornamental plaster cornice and an 18th-century fireplace surround. The staircase, renewed around 1960, retains its original form with a cut string and wreathed handrail.

The South Wing, which is the south courtyard range, consists of former outbuildings with rubble stone walls and a tiled roof. At the left end is the former coach house, featuring weatherboarded walls and a hipped tiled roof. Attached at the rear, forming part of the west courtyard range, is a former stable now used as a garage, also with rubble stone walls and a hipped tiled roof.

Garden Cottage includes the north courtyard range and a wing to the north. It has rubble stone walls and a hipped tiled roof with stone eaves courses. The main range is one storey with an attic. On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century stone mullioned window that has been altered to serve as a doorway, along with a 20th-century glazed porch and door, and one ledged door. The attic features two hipped dormers with sashes that have glazing bars.
