Description

This is a former Methodist chapel, dating from 1809 and located in Upwey, Dorset. It was converted to a dwelling in the 1980s. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with a slate roof and features a late 20th-century flat-roofed extension to the rear. The front of the building has five pointed arched windows with cusped heads, set within dog-tooth arches and linked by a drip-mould with carved stops. These windows are divided by foliate-capped colonnettes, likely inserted in the later 19th century and now contain small-pane casements. At ground floor level are two wide windows with small-pane casements, set within crude pointed arches; a lower square opening with a pair of French doors; and a further door with inserted openings on the right return. The roof is hipped. The interior was not inspected during the listing process. The chapel was licensed in April 1810 for use by Dissenting Protestants. Previous List entries mentioned a stone gabled porch and brick lean-tos to the front, though these are no longer present.
