Description

Numbers 8 and 9 Coburg Place form a pair of houses built in the late 18th or early 19th century, with modifications made in the mid-19th century. They are rendered and have a slate mansard roof. Each house has two storeys and an attic, with a single window per floor. Dormers are positioned above canted oriels, featuring a four-pane sash window and a two-light casement, with decorative cast-iron cresting set into dentil cornices. The ground floor now has two 20th-century shop fronts. The facade is characterised by a slender moulded cornice, a blocking course, a coped parapet, and a deep rendered central ridge stack. The interior has not been inspected. The building retains the scale of other properties from the same period in St Thomas Street and is notable for its Late Georgian canted oriels, which are typical of Melcombe Regis.
