Description
Numbers 6 and 7 Coburg Place form a pair of houses with a shop, dating to the early 19th century, although earlier building work may have been incorporated. The building is rendered with a high slate mansard roof. The exterior presents two storeys and an attic, with a facade of two bays plus two bays. The windows are sash windows, with two 4-pane and two 9-pane sash dormers above a tripartite bow oriel set at an angle; it has a moulded cornice and sill. The ground floor features a shop front with slender mullions, set beneath a shallow fascia with a moulded cornice and stone stall-riser. Number 6 has three wide lights on the curve, followed by a recessed door with transom light, a single light, and a panelled door with transom light, all contained within incised pilasters with caps. Number 7 has a glazed door with transom light, in pilasters, along with two narrow lights flanking a panelled door with transom light; a small return is visible where a later building sets back from the newer street line. A large central stack is present. Interior inspection, excluding roof access, reveals mainly mid-20th century fittings and no earlier architectural detail. The building projects slightly forward from its neighbours to the left, returning on a quadrant, which may indicate an earlier street line – the relatively low ceiling heights also support this theory.
