Description
The Duke of Edinburgh Public House is a building that was originally a house, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It features a rendered exterior and a slate roof, standing three storeys tall with an attic and two windows. At the second floor, there is a flat-roofed dormer with a two-light casement above 16-pane and 12-pane sash windows. The first floor has a broad canted bow with plain sashes and a 12-pane window, all of which have moulded flush boxes. The façade of the public house is marked by four narrow pilasters with octagonal consoles and three finials above the cornice. To the left of the main façade, there is a gated entrance leading to a small lobby with a door on the right and a wide display window featuring turned pilaster mullions above a tiled stall-riser. The building has a blocking-course with coping and a thin cornice mould, along with a stack located to the left. The interior has not been inspected. This building is a notable example of the conversion of a mid-19th century house into a public house, contributing significantly to the commercial street frontage.
