Description
The Hobson, Oke, Samways, and Unidentified Monuments are four table-tombs located 5.9 metres southwest of the south tower of the Church of St Martin. These tombs date from the 18th and 19th centuries and are made of stone.
The first tomb features plain stone sides with square pilasters and recessed lozenges, topped with a flat block. It commemorates Elizabeth Whitehead Honson from the late 18th century. The second tomb has plain sides and fluted corner pilasters, with a flat top block that has a weeded edge. It is dedicated to Robert Oke, a merchant from Poole who died in 1810, and his wife, Mary, who died in 1824.
The third tomb has a large plinth, bulbous end blocks, and one rectangular panel on each side, though part of the inscription is illegible; it marks a death in 1700. The fourth tomb features plain stone sides, fluted pilasters, and a flat top block with a moulded edge, in memory of George Samways, a gentleman who died in 1804, along with other inscriptions related to the Samways family.
