Description
90 and 92 Chiswell are a pair of houses that likely have origins in the 17th century but were raised and refronted in the late 19th century. The houses are rendered with a stone block gable and slate roofs, situated at the end of a row with twin gables facing the street. They are three storeys high and have a one plus one window arrangement, featuring four-pane horned sash windows. In No 90, the ground-floor window is offset to the right of a 20th-century door located in a cheeked porch with a flat slab roof. No 92 has a similar 20th-century door positioned far to the right. A central brick stack is present. The return gable is made of well-squared and cut stone, clearly showing the line of the earlier, lower steep roof. At the back, there is a full-width lean-to unit that is two storeys high and includes one 16-pane sash window. The earlier history of the building is suggested by the low ceiling heights and overall small scale. The interior has not been inspected. There is also a low boundary wall across the front and returning at either end, made of large squared blocks with simple openings opposite the doors.
