Description
The Fort on the Lake is a folly, likely built around 1851. It features rubble stone walls with brick dressings and has a flat roof. The structure includes a circular battlemented tower situated on a circular platform that extends into the lake. The tower is one storey high and has four openings with four-centred arched heads; the opening facing the land has doors, while the others are shuttered. There are string courses above the openings and below the battlements. The circular platform is paved with square tiles and has a low stone boundary wall, which is raised on the landward side to create an archway with iron gates. A brass cannon that was once on the platform has been removed and stored. This structure serves as a picturesque feature of the lake.
