Description
The brewhouse of Messrs Eldridge Pope's Brewery, built in 1880, is located on Weymouth Avenue. Designed by architect G R Crickmay from Weymouth, the building is constructed from brown, yellow, and red brick and features three storeys with attics. It has a moulded stone eaves cornice and parapet, and twelve ranges of industrial windows with iron glazing bars, which are framed by arched pilasters. The four eastern bays are taller and include an attic feature, characterized by low flanking parapets topped with scrolled ashlar consoles on a taller central parapet. This central section is divided by four pilasters that are crowned with stone urns, and between these pilasters are two round-arched panels and one circular panel adorned with an elaborate moulded terra-cotta swag. The west elevation displays three uniquely shaped gables that align with the pitch of the roofs. All the listed buildings at Messrs Eldridge Pope's Brewery are recognized as a group.
