Description

No. 23 is a cottage dated 1833, constructed using earlier materials. It is built from flint and brick, topped with slate roofs. The cottage features brick stacks with moulded caps that are set diagonally along the ridge. It has an L-plan layout, with one arm projecting forward and two storeys in height. The projecting wing includes a two-light 19th-century casement window with glazing bars on the ground floor, and an oriel window above with horizontal glazing bars and a tent-shaped roof. The right bay is blank, but there is a plank door located under a sloping porch in the re-entrant angle. The cottage also has carved barge boards. Inside, there is a 17th-century beam with an ogee stop at one end that has been reused.
