Description
No 35 on Salisbury Street is a house dating from around 1770 for the rear range and around 1800 for the main range, with a later extension added in the late 19th or 20th century to the south. The building features Flemish bond brickwork, while the extension is in stretcher bond. It has a tiled roof with brick stacks at both ends of the original range. The house is two storeys high with attics and was originally designed with three bays. The openings are set under flat, gauged brick arches that have stone keystones. On the ground floor to the right, there is a large inserted three-part sash window with glazing bars, while the remaining windows on the main front are 19th-century four-pane sashes. The southern extension includes two-part sashes with glazing bars. The central entrance features a six-panelled door with a pedimented and dentilled architrave.
Inside, there are contemporary fireplaces with moulded cast-iron grates. The design and detailing of the southern extension are noted to be of a higher quality than is typically found in such additions.
