Description
The garden walls, gateway, and terrace balustrade located immediately to the north of Cranborne Manor House date from different periods. The walls are likely from the early 17th century, while the gateway was constructed in the 18th century. The terrace balustrade, originally built in 1610, was remade in 1647. The walls are made of flint and rubble, topped with weathered stone coping. The gatepiers are crafted from rusticated ashlar, featuring moulded caps and ball finials. The terrace balustrade is made of stone with symmetrical turned stone balusters and is accessed by a short flight of steps. It is noted that the original gateway and terrace were reportedly damaged by Parliamentary troops in 1643.
