Description

This is a house, originally one building but now divided into a pair of cottages, located on Church Street, Cranborne. The core of the building dates back to the 15th century, with alterations made in the 17th and 18th centuries, and the left bay likely rebuilt in the 19th century. The street facade is constructed of 18th-century Flemish-bond brickwork, topped by a thatched roof with brick stacks at the gable ends and along the ridge. The building is two storeys high, with a four-window front, featuring nine-pane sash windows. Some window openings have been blocked up, and each cottage has a plank door.

The interior has not been inspected recently, but it is believed to retain numerous original features, including the original roof structure with smoke-blackened timbers, indicating a possible original use as an open hall. Historical records suggest the presence of an open fireplace with a chamfered bressummer featuring run-out stops, a chamfered ceiling beam with ogee stops, and splat balusters on the staircase.
