Description

Manor Cottage is a detached house, likely originally a farmhouse, dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble walls with a thatched roof featuring gable parapets. Brick stacks are located at each end and centrally. The house originally had a three-room cross-passage plan, which has been altered over time. A depressed four-centred arched doorway provides access. The ground floor has three stone mullioned windows, each with a hoodmould and leaded lights. The first floor contains three horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars, alongside a smaller window likely associated with a former stairwell. Later, single-storey additions, built with stone walls and tiled roofs, were added to each end of the property. A modern rear lean-to is present, featuring a tiled catslide roof. Inside, remnants of a plank and muntin partition are visible between the Hall and Parlour. The Parlour retains a deep chamfered ceiling beam, while the Hall features deep, chamfered intersecting ceiling beams. A stone boundary wall runs alongside the road. The cottage exemplifies local vernacular architecture.
