Description

Walford Farmhouse is a house of two builds, with a southern block dating to the 17th century and a northern block to the 18th century. A date of 1757 is painted on the bricks of the west wall, though its authenticity is uncertain. The house is constructed of brick, with tiled roofs and brick stacks. It is two storeys high. There is a single-storey lean-to on the west side, a single-storey outbuilding to the north, and a modern porch on the east side, all with tiled roofs. The west elevation of the north block features a platband at first floor level. Most of the windows are modern, side-hung casements. However, those in the east wall of the north block are in old openings with gauged brick arches. The interior has been much altered, but the 17th century block retains a chamfered oak ceiling beam and a staircase, which are likely original. The staircase features massive oak newels and a moulded handrail; the balusters have been covered or replaced with modern panelling.
