Description
The Railway Viaduct over the road to Sydling was built around 1850 by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It features rock-faced masonry and consists of three arches, with the central arch being larger than the two flanking arches. These arches have dropped keys and dressed stone voussoirs. There is a moulded plat band and cornice, topped by a flat parapet. The main piers on either side of the roadway are each pierced by four smaller arches with rounded bottoms. At each end, there are square corner piers with sloping revetments that are coped to retain the embankment.
