Description

Dawn Chorus and Wicketts are a pair of semi-detached cottages with origins dating back to the 17th century, originally built as one house. Number 46 features plastered walls, a thatched roof, and a plastered stack. It has one storey and attics, with a single-storey lean-to at the south end under a catslide roof. The entrance includes a modern panelled door and a stable door in the lean-to. The ground floor has two modern casement windows with lead lights, while the attic contains two half-dormers with similar casements. The interior has been altered, but the main ground floor room retains a large open fireplace with a timber lintel.

Number 47 has walls made of brick and stone, partly plastered, with a thatched roof and a brick stack. Like its neighbour, it has one storey and attics, with a lean-to extension on the north side featuring brick walls and a tiled roof, along with a glazed door. The ground floor has two casement windows with a central glazing bar, and the attic also has two half-dormers with similar casements. Internally, the main ground floor room has a large open fireplace, which is partly blocked, with a timber lintel that spans the full width of the building and includes a bread oven. There is a projection at the rear of the house, with a blocked opening that may contain an additional bread oven. The roof may have been constructed using jointed cruck techniques, with some trusses partly concealed by plaster. An early chamfered door frame is present in the ground floor partition.
