Description

Nos. 33 and 35 on Fore Street are two attached cottages built in the later 19th century. They feature random rubble-stone walls with dressed stone quoins and a slate roof with gable ends. There are brick stacks located at the left-hand gable, ridge, and right-hand gable. The right-hand gable has a bargeboard. The cottages are two storeys high and have a total of seven windows with irregular spacing.

No. 33 includes a canted bay window with sash windows on the left side at ground level, a three-light wooden casement with glazing bars that cants upwards, and two and three-light casements on the first floor. No. 35 has canted bay windows on either side of its front door and three windows above, all with wooden casements and glazing bars. The upper windows are adorned with four gablets, each featuring a wooden bargeboard.

The doors include a flush-panelled 20th-century door at the left end of No. 33 and a high segmental-arched entrance to the right of centre with two leaf-plank doors. No. 35 has a centrally located front door that is fielded-panel with two top lights, also from the 20th century. These cottages are listed for their close group value, their position at the west entry to the village, and their design.
