Description
This description covers a group of three monuments located approximately 2.5 meters south of the chancel wall of the Church of St Andrew in Weymouth. The monuments date from the 17th and 18th centuries and are made of Portland stone.
From north to south, the first monument is unidentified and likely dates to the late 17th century. It features a very thick square-topped stone with a sunk panel enclosed under a scalloped pointed arch, although the inscription is not legible. The second monument is dedicated to Jane Christirose, dated 174-. It has a scrolled top with very worn modeled embellishments, and the inscription is partly legible. The third monument is to William, son of Stephen, from the 18th century. It has a shaped top with a small central scroll above a plain surface, contained within an incised panel frame, but the inscription is very worn and part of the left side is broken off.
