Description
The Water Barn is a former water mill, likely originating in the 17th century but largely rebuilt in the 19th century. It has been converted into a house and was last operational in 1956. The building features walls made of both brick and flint, with brick banding, and has a tiled roof with brick stacks. It is two storeys high, with the main range running parallel to the river. There are two adjoining ranges at right angles to the main range, each with separate half-hipped roofs and a central valley gutter. The main entrance, located on the south-east side, has a modern recessed porch within an old opening. All windows are modern hardwood casements. The original roof structure has been retained, and there is a cast iron water wheel on the north-east side, which was under repair at the time of the survey. No internal machinery remains, but the conversion is considered to be of good quality.
