Description
This building is a barn with attached stables, located 10 metres west of South Bowood Dairy Farmhouse. It dates from the 18th century and features rubble-stone walls with gable ends. The gable copings have apex blocks, and the roof is made of corrugated asbestos with 20th-century construction.
On the south wall, there is a two-leaf loft door, a main entrance without doors, a loop, and a small 20th-century plank door, with a plank loft door above. The north wall has a gabled porch entrance topped with a ball finial. The barn has two-leaf plank doors that are well above ground level, and below these is a segmental-arch entrance leading to a basement store, which is now used as a hen house. The barn floor level is marked by a string, and there are two loops above.
The attached stables are positioned at right angles to the west end of the barn. They also have rubble walls and a slate roof. There is a stable door in the center with a loft door above it, and metal-framed 20th-century windows on each side.
