Description
This is a bridge located approximately 600 metres east-north-east of Scotland, dated 1711, built for or by William Okeden and Nathaniel Bond, and has been altered. It is constructed of ashlar with a timber causeway. The bridge features two piers; the upstream side has triangular faces designed to act as outwaters, with faceted corbels that support the causeway. These corbels are inscribed with the initials "WO" and "NB" along with the date in relief. The downstream side of the bridge is battered, with the western pier from 1711 being coped, while the eastern pier has a wide groove cut out of its lower courses, and part of the upper coursing is missing. There is a replacement wooden causeway. On either side of the stream, there are retaining walls that are canted on the upstream side to direct the water flow. The bridge also functioned as a sluice and was part of a flooding system that served the meads of the lower Corfe River Valley, with leats and feeder channels connected to it.
