Description
Walnut Tree Cottage is an 18th-century cottage that may include some earlier work, with 19th and 20th-century extensions and alterations. The building is made of rendered and whitewashed cob and has a thatched roof. There are brick stacks at both ends of the central range. The main range features a 19th-century addition on the left and a single-storey range of uncertain date on the right. The cottage has two storeys and attics, with a three-window range. It includes 20th-century casements with glazing bars and a central 20th-century door. The left gable wall has 19th-century cast-iron casements with pointed heads on the upper panes, with the ground floor window being a recent insertion.
Inside, there are few early features visible, but they may still exist beneath the plasterwork. The right end wall of the right-hand range contains a raised jointed cruck-truss that springs from a tie beam, which may be a reused element.
