Warehouse. Mid C19. Rubble, slate roof. A long multi-bay lofty building set with plain gable to the street, running back into the ground slope to Herbert Place. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and loft; the front has a gable opening blocked with brickwork above wide loading openings, to brick jambs and segmental head at second floor, square head and stone jambs to first floor, and wider double-door to brick segmental head and stone jambs to the ground floor. To the right is a smaller pair of doors in a similar opening, and at second floor a small 2-light casement has been inserted. The right flank has three 2-light casements and 3 plank-shuttered openings at eaves level, and a series of 2-light openings, half casement and half shuttered, to brick segmental at first floor, with a plain ground floor; the left side has eight 3-light small-pane casements at the eaves, set flush. The rear (W) gable is in plain rubble, but is mostly below street level. INTERIOR: has a series of close-spaced transverse beams. At the head of the staircase, on the N side, is some C17 panelling, presumed from elsewhere. This is a simple but impressive building, located in an area of growing tourist potential, with large clear internal spaces, unused at time of survey, to the upper levels.
