Description

Trinity House is a former house, now part of a public house, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It features Flemish bond brickwork and an asbestos-cement slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan with a symmetrical front. The original structure has been extended to the north by two bays, with a return facing the harbour, designed to match the original details. The rear elevation has a late 20th-century triple-gabled glazed extension at ground floor level.

The front of Trinity House, facing Trinity Street, is two storeys high with an attic and has three windows. It includes two flat-roofed two-light casement dormers above 12-pane sash windows set in plain reveals, with wide splayed voussoirs and stone sills. The central entrance features a four-panel door within a thin pilaster surround, topped with consoles and a moulded cornice. Additional architectural details include a small painted stone plinth, a painted mid-plat band, a moulded cornice, and a rebuilt blocking-course with a parapet. The building is capped with four brick gable stacks.

The 20th-century extension is slightly set back from the original building and features two oriels above a wide ground floor multiple sash window. The rear side has two small dormers above a 12-pane sash window and a bold canted oriel window with eight panes on each side and a panelled frieze, topped with a lead flat roof. There is also a 12-pane sash window for the staircase at a lower level. The interior has not been inspected.
