Description

The remains of a town pump, originally erected in 1775 at West Plains (North Quay), were re-erected in their current location in 1990 by the Weymouth Civic Society. The pump is made of Portland stone and is designed as an obelisk approximately 3 meters high and 0.9 meters square at the base. It features a series of banded courses on a chamfered base, culminating in a ball terminal on a pyramid capping. There is an opening for the former handle on the west side and another opening at ground level facing north, along with a few remnants of the ironwork fixings for the pump. The obelisk also displays a plaque from the Civic Society, noting the relocation and reinstatement as part of broader environmental improvements in the area.
