Steward'S House About 150 Metres North East Of Heligan House

The Steward's House, located about 150 metres north-east of Heligan House, is a farm steward's house that has been converted into a residential home. It dates from the early 19th century, with later additions from the 19th and some alterations from the 20th century. The front of the house is constructed from squared granite rubble, while the sides and rear are made of random rubble. An addition to the right is built from slatestone rubble. The roof is hipped and covered with bitumenized slate, featuring ridge tiles. There is an end stack on the left and an axial stack on the right, both with brick shafts.

The house has a double depth plan, with a central entrance through a porch. The principal rooms are located to the front left and right, each heated by a stack on the outer side, while the shallower rear service rooms are situated behind. The addition on the right may have originally been a barn with a one-room plan, which was altered in the 20th century as part of the house.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front. All windows are early 19th-century 16-pane sashes featuring cambered stone arches and keystones. The central entrance has a 19th-century six-panelled door with an overlight, set within a wooden flat-roofed porch that has a cornice. The bay on the right end has a three-light 12-pane casement window at both the ground and first floors. The left end features a 19th-century 16-pane sash window at the first floor to the left. At the rear, there are two 2-light 6-pane casements at the ground floor to the right and two more 2-light casements at the first floor, along with a porch to the rear left. The rest of the rear is not accessible. The interior has not been inspected.
