Description

A pair of townhouses, likely dating to the 18th century or earlier and remodelled in the mid-19th century, are located at 65 and 67 The Terrace in Penryn. The buildings are constructed of stucco with rusticated quoins, and feature moulded architraves, sill brackets to the second floor, and a modillioned cornice to the parapet. They have steep asbestos slate roofs and brick end stacks. The plan follows a double-depth layout. The houses are three stories high with a two-window facade. Late 19th-century four-pane sash windows are present. The ground floor has been adapted for shops, featuring late 19th or early 20th century shopfronts with pilasters and plate glass windows. A pair of doorways with overlights have 20th-century doors, and a 20th-century fascia covers the original fascia, which retains a moulded cornice. The interiors of the shops were altered in the 20th century, but the moulded ceiling cornice in No. 67 remains; the remainder of the interior was not inspected. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
