Description

This is an 18th-century house located on Wendron Street in Helston. The house is built of granite rubble with timber lintels, and has a thatched roof of wheat straw. A rubble chimney stack is on the left, and a brick chimney stack is on the right. The house follows a double-depth plan and has two storeys, with a nearly symmetrical two-window front. The windows on the upper storey are 2-light casements with 12 panes. The original windows on the ground floor are 16-pane hornless sashes. A central doorway, approached by three granite steps, has a 20th-century door. A Victorian letterbox is set into the wall to the left of the doorway. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to contain features of interest. A plaque above the door states that Robert Fitzimmons, “Champion of the World,” was born here in 1863.
