Description

The Old School House is a Church of England school, now a private house, likely dating to around 1850, although local tradition suggests it could be much older. The building is constructed of slatestone rubble with granite quoins, and has a grouted scantle slate roof with gable ends. It features an external rubble stack over the gable end on the right. The original plan was for a single room, with a porch added later. The architecture shows Tudor influence and uses a local vernacular style.

The building is single-storey. The front, facing the road to the south-east, has one window. An entrance doorway is located in the gable end of the porch, featuring a four-centred rubble arch with its original four-centred doorframe and a pair of doors with moulded boards and iron hinges topped with fleur de lys finials. A small window is set in the porch gable, with a 15-pane casement. A similar original window is located opposite the rear of the building. A larger window to the gable end on the left is a 20th-century replacement.

Inside, the interior is simple. The original roof structure is concealed by a 20th-century plaster ceiling.
