Description

The Cottage is a 17th and 18th century cottage, extended slightly in the 20th century. It is built of rendered cob walls and has an asbestos slate roof with a hip to the left corner. A large external stone stack with irregularly disposed offsets rises from the gable end on the right, and a painted brick chimney is on the gable end of the rear wing. The cottage has a simple, L-shaped plan, originally comprising a single room, with a small, one-room rear wing added later. The south front has an irregular, single-window facade. The windows are 20th century, 2-light casements. A 20th century, partly glazed porch with a cusped bargeboard shelters the doorway on the left. A single-storey extension with a window and door is located to the left. The interior is simple and retains some old beams; the main fireplace has been partly blocked. It is a rare surviving example of a one-room plan house.
